Just a few photos that were taken today that I thought might be interesting: Huntington Park has been getting rave reviews from everyone I talk to. It’s a very nice facility with some really cool features that we’re just used to at the college level… … a cool video-enhanced scoreboard… a sign measuring the speed [...]

I’ll be on the road to the Big Ten Baseball Tournament in Columbus in less than 7 hours. Fortunately, I’ll have a ride. Mike Altobelli, father of Illinois thirdbaseman Dom, will be giving me a ride. I’m most thankful for Mike’s generosity. During a home game, he heard I was going to the Tournament and [...]

What’s the recipe for a big crowd at Illinois Field? Start with two nationally ranked teams fighting it out for a conference title. It doesn’t hurt to have free admission or free food. The promise of fireworks at the end of the game is a good idea too. It seemed to work since tonight Illinois [...]

Snowy day We got started early today at 11am because of the re-scheduled game from yesterday’s rained out affair. So today instead of rain, we got snow. Granted it wasn’t a blizzard or anything but dang, it was cold. Towards the end of Game One, the snow stopped. The sun even popped out for a [...]

The Big Ten Network began broadcasting the games by the third round. This camera operator didn’t care for me taking her picture even though she was poking her camera into Illinois’ dugout a good part of the game. This is a mid-game interview of Coach Hartleb of Illinois. This goes for MLB too but my [...]

Indiana defeated Penn State 11-8 and Michigan continues their winning ways by defeating Purdue 6-1. You can read my recap of the games at The College Baseball Blog. Indiana’s Celebration… Penn State’s Disbelief I will say that the PSU-IU game was one of the best games I’ve seen at the Big Ten Tournament. Never had [...]

That is a smile of a proud father. Russell Bonadonna (above) is holding the homerun ball hit by his son, Joe during Wednesday’s action at the Big Ten Tournament. Bonadonna’s homer proved to be the game-winner in the win against Ohio State in the first round of the tournament. Illinois won 3-2. Tied 2-2, Bonadonna [...]

There’s good news and bad news. Well, the good news is the Illini are going to the Big Ten tournament and we have Indiana to thank for that. The Hoosiers swept the Michigan State Spartans in Friday’s doubleheader and thereby eliminating them from tournament qualification. So on to Ann Arbor we go next week! The [...]

Joe Bonadonna’s always in a hurry Illinois split a doubleheader with Northwestern Saturday losing a squeaker 4-3 then in the second game, crushing the Wildcats 11-5 behind a pair of career-first homers by Kyle Hudson and John Schlichter. The kids and I got to the park just as fans were spilling of the stands after [...]

Michigan defeated Illinois tonight 9-5. I shot this as I was walking to the stadium. The flags are located at direct centerfield. I could tell right away we were going to have a slugfest. Some Michigan ballplayers were spotted outside the stadium during batting practice to flag down the balls that got hit out. Ok, [...]
