Making the lists

In the off-season, Buckeye State Baseball is doing a Top 9 Division I Moments of 2009 as they pertain to Ohio baseball.  Number 6 on the list is “Welcome to the Adult Table Big Ten”.  In some ways it’s an all-encompassing topic but it manifests itself in the Ohio State-Illinois game at the Big Ten […]

Thanks to Buckeye Nine Tournament Central

I would like to take the time to thank Chris Webb (from The Buckeye Nine) for taking on the arduous task of bringing up Buckeye Nine Tournament Central, a blog which covered the Big Ten Tournament from a more independent (i.e. not Big Ten) perspective.  Webb did a fantastic job.  If you haven’t already, read […]

Final miscellaneous notes on the Big Ten Tournament

The Big Ten Tournament banner including Illinois’ Brandon Wikoff As always, I had a great time at the Big Ten Tournament.  Win or lose, it’s a culmination of everything that the Illinois team has worked so hard for all season.  They’ve exceeded everyone else’s expectations this season and each one of them should be proud. […]

Indiana takes the Big Ten Tournament; Cappetta named to All-Tournament Team

The Hoosiers were on a roll and no one was going to stop them, not even the Gophers, who were pretty hot themselves.  They won the Big Ten Tournament championship by defeating the red hot Minnesota Golden Gophers 13-2. This is Indiana’s first Tourney title in in 13 years.  This Hoosier team did it with […]

Illinois eliminated from Big Ten Tourney by Minnesota

Day and night.  That’s how I’d describe the difference between Minnesota on Thursday and Minnesota on Friday.  And unfortunately, Illinois had to play them Friday. The same Gopher team that couldn’t buy a hit against Indiana the day before and had its pitching pounded by their offense, came out a changed team Friday.  They first […]

The Buckeyes make a comeback against Illinois 7-4

I really thought we had them.  Going into the bottom of the sixth, we had a three-run lead.  But then again, this was Ohio State and we all know about their offense.  The Bucks scored two runs in each of the last three innings to defeat Illinois 7-4. Aaron Johnson trots around the bases after […]

Bashore, Indiana lineup show second seed Minnesota who’s boss, 12-3

Indiana cruised to its second tournament victory against second seed Minnesota in the tournament behind the pitching of Matt Bashore who pitched seven shutout innings. Bashore who didn’t allow a hit till the fourth inning, was practically untouchable. allowing only two for the game.  Indiana won 12-3. Boy, Indiana sure can hit! Eighteen hits against […]

Fun, odd and interesting photos from the Big Ten Baseball Tournament

Just a few photos that were taken today that I thought might be interesting: Huntington Park has been getting rave reviews from everyone I talk to.  It’s a very nice facility with some really cool features that we’re just used to at the college level… … a cool video-enhanced scoreboard… a sign measuring the speed […]
