Illini squeeze out a win vs SIU 5-4

Southern Illinois made it interesting but the Illini held on for their 15th win last night.  they won 5-4.  SIU scored three runs in ninth against Bryan Roberts but Bryan closed it out for an Illinois victory.  Time is short so a few quick observations from looking at the box score.  Three more stolen bases [...]

Illinois posts just one win against Hawkeyes

It was a rather disappointing weekend for the Illini who won just one against Iowa.  A sweep wasn’t out of the question for me.  The offense only generated six runs in the last two games and generally in college games that’s not enough.  Ironically, the one game when Illinois gave up the most runs, eight [...]

Illinois sweep Dartmouth, finish Spring Break trip with 5-1 record

Could be that Illinois is finally showing what they are really capable of.?  I sure hope so.  After sweeping the doubleheader today against the Dartmouth Big Green today, the Illinois will come home to Illinois with a 5-1 record from their Spring Break trip.  That brings the Illini back up to .500 after starting the [...]

Illinois capitalizes on Akron miscues, wins 7-6

Today’s game against the Akron Zips was much like yesterday’s game against Bucknell.  Illinois fell behind early, caught up to tie later then it was a dogfight till the end.  The good news is that this time,  Illini came up the victor, defeating Akron 7-6.  It took some doing, though.  Akron almost outhit the Illini [...]

Is the Illini baseball team showing signs of improvement?

Ok, considering we came into the weekend 1-5, we had a pretty darn good weekend.  On a broader scale, we went 2-2 for the weekend which is a whole lot better than the ultimate result we had been getting.  Not to mention the exciting win against #12 Coastal Carolina Chants.  Maybe it doesn’t it doesn’t [...]

Upset!!

Wow.  Simply amazing.  I admit, on Friday night when I left town for the weekend right after #12 Coastal Carolina scored 6 in the first inning, I didn’t hold much hope for an Illini victory.  When I got to my destination and checked the score, I literally had to do a double-take.  We won?  Wow!! [...]

Illini end Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge with loss to St John’s

Well, the Illini gave St John’s a good fight.  It was pretty much the story of two games within one.  The first one where the Illini had them strung up in the first five innings, winning 4-0.  It was indeed the 3-run fifth inning when Illinois did most of the damage keyed by a 2-run [...]

Illini quick out of the starting gate: defeat Notre Dame 11-1

That’s the way to start the season! Consider that the Illinois baseball team went into the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge cold having missed the first weekend of play due to weather while their opponents, Notre Dame, got a three game head start.  Consider also that same Notre Dame team won all three of their games [...]
