As promised, some baseball photos from 2006

A couple days ago, I posted some photos from 2005 that I had not seen for a long while.  As promised, here are some from 2006 I also ran across.
Again, these photos are not the best quality but definitely valuable from an archive perspective.
Enjoy.

Dominic Altobelli minor league card

This is a digital replica of former Illini Dominic Altobelli’s official baseball card this year when he played for the Casper Ghosts.  His father Mike, who sent me the card, is very positive about how Dom’s first season progressed saying that he began “driving some balls toward the end of the season”.  They like [...]

Dom Altobelli: Update and Photo from Dad

Mike Altobelli sends this photo along of his son Dominic Altobelli.  Dom, a former Illini thirdbaseman who was picked this year’s MLB draft has been playing for the Casper (Wyo.) Ghosts all year.  The Ghosts are an Advanced Rookie affiliate of the Rockies in the Pioneer League.
Dom’s parents took some time off and [...]

Altobelli shows promise in the Rookie League with hit streak

Dominic Altobelli is on a roll now in the minors.  Playing for the Casper Ghosts in the Rookie League, he has a 11 game hit streak going back July 1.  According to his father Mike, Dom’s manager is trying him out at 2B just to keep him in the lineup.
For the year, Altobelli is [...]

Catching up with Illini draftees

By now, the minor league season has started for the Illinois players who were drafted earlier this month.  Let’s take a look at how they are doing in their new minor league settings.
Well, Brandon Wikoff is off to a hot start for the Tri-City ValleyCats in New York State.  After last night’s two-hit performance, Wikoff [...]

As mentioned before, Dominic Altobelli has [...]

Dominic Altobelli to sign with the Colorado Rockies organization

I just got off the phone with Mike Altobelli, father of Dominic Altobelli.  Turns out a representative of the Colorado Rockies will be coming to the Altobelli household tonight so that Dom can sign his first pro contract.  Over the weekend, Dominic will be heading to his first assignment which I assume will be the [...]

Illini Dom Altobelli to the Rockies organization

Dominic Altobelli, our thirdbaseman, has made it to pros.  As someone who watched Illinois games from the left field fence, I got to see a lot of Dom so that makes me happy.
I’m also happy for his parents who I got to know pretty well.  They were kind enough to let me hitch a [...]

The Buckeyes make a comeback against Illinois 7-4

I really thought we had them.  Going into the bottom of the sixth, we had a three-run lead.  But then again, this was Ohio State and we all know about their offense.  The Bucks scored two runs in each of the last three innings to defeat Illinois 7-4.

Fun, odd and interesting photos from the Big Ten Baseball Tournament

Just a few photos that were taken today that I thought might be interesting:
Huntington Park has been getting rave reviews from everyone I talk to.  It’s a very nice facility with some really cool features that we’re just used to at the college level…

… a cool video-enhanced scoreboard…
