Illini swept in Keith LeClair Classic

Five in a row.  I’ll bet Coach Hartleb will have a few words with the team in the locker room after this one.
It was a tough one to lose.  Once again, Illinois had the lead only to lose it.  They were up by scores of 4-1 and 5-3 but West Virginia pecked away till [...]

EC Pirates squash Illini’s lead

They played hard but Illinois lost to #21 East Carolina 7-5 in the first game of the Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, North Carolina.
It was a tough game against a tough team perhaps harder to take because Illinois was so close to winning it.  Illinois had the lead after 6 1/2 innings but East Carolina [...]

The 2010 Illini baseball roster by the numbers

Though it’s still freezing here in Central Illinois, we have to remind ourselves that opening day IS less than two weeks.  Let’s find out about the University of Illinois baseball by the numbers.
There are 34 players listed according to the roster.  I’ve sorted, filtered, and broken it down to get a sense of exactly what [...]

Where our Illini are playing this summer

College summer leagues have already begun their seasons and Illinois players are among those playing.  The University of Illinois baseball program has sent 21 players throughout the the country to 13 teams in nine different summer leagues.

Ohio State pulls out ahead in 10-7 rollercoaster affair

It was a tough game for the Illini though well played for the most part.  And even for the casual uninvolved observer, a very engaging game for lack of a better term. The lead changed six times during the course of the nine innings (if you count ties).  I mentioned to someone that the [...]

Wotta Game! Comeback win in Game One vs Ohio State

This game ranks up there as one of the best baseball games I’ve ever seen considering what was at stake, how many were in attendance and what actually went down.  And in case the photo above doesn’t give it away, Illinois won.

With Alex Wimmers (above left) and Phil Haig (above right) on [...]

Illini dealt a 4-3 loss by the Purple Aces

#25 Illinois lost an ugly affair against University of Evansville tonight 4-3 in 10 innings.  Ugly in more ways than one.  But before we get to that, let’s talk about some of the positive things to get us started.

Dom Altobelli:  3 for 5
Dom Altobelli went 3 for 5 for the night.  Not [...]

Illinois sweeps NU; Grabs first place for themselves

Illinois and starting pitcher Bryan Roberts took care of business today as they shut out Northwestern Wildcats 9-0 at Rocky Miller Park in Evanston.  With help from Michigan who defeated Ohio State, they are now in sole possession of first place in the Big Ten conference.
Roberts was lights out as he struck out seven [...]

Argo’s granny downs SIU

The big stories of tonight’s game between Illinois and Southern Illinois University:
Well first of all, Illinois won 5-1.  Yes, the Illini have a three game winning streak against Big Ten teams (courtesy of Penn State) but they also haven’t beaten a non-conference in three games either.   So I’m glad Illinois could get this monkey off [...]
