Illinois-Minnesota: DH Sweep!

Yes, that is exactly what the doctor ordered!  After a five straight losses, we needed a couple wins to get us back on track and that’s exactly what we got against Minnesota on Saturday. The first game seemed to be outlet of pent-up burst of energy and frustration (not to mention offense) as the Illini [...]

Michigan takes the wind out of Illinois’ sails

Michigan defeated Illinois tonight 9-5. I shot this as I was walking to the stadium.  The flags are located at direct centerfield.  I could tell right away we were going to have a slugfest. Some Michigan ballplayers were spotted outside the stadium during batting practice to flag down the balls that got hit out. Ok, [...]

Illinois Gets a DH split today against MSU

Tom Tompkins has a short report from Lansing. Your guys broke our hearts in the 1st game with those 4 runs in the final inning. It was fairly cold and windy, and we had a lengthy rain delay between games. We got great pitching from two freshman and a winning hit by Eric Roof in [...]

Spring Break Trip puts Illinois above .500

Four hits by first baseman Ryan Hastings helped Illinois put down the Kansas Jayhawks 11-9 on Wednesday.  Aside from going 4 for 4, Hastings clubbed a homer and a double with 3 runs and 2 rbis.  Kyle Hudson, Joe Bonadonna and Brandon Wikoff all contributed 2 hits apiece. It was was a close victory though.  [...]

Baylor 20 Illinois 6 Ouch!

That was my first reaction when seeing the final score of tonight’s game.  The lights-out pitching from last weekend just saw their ERA skyrocket.  Scott Shaw only lasted for 2 1/3 innings giving up 12 runs.  Only 5 of those runs were earned due to an error with two out. Obviously, the Baylor offense wasn’t [...]

Illini Win Season Opener!

It’s hard to believe with a heavy snowstorm upon us here in Illinois, that I would be following a baseball game today.  With the help of CSTV’s Gametracker, that’s exactly what I did as I saw the University of Illinois win their season opener against Sam Houston State at the Al Ogletree Tournament in Edinburgh, [...]

Sunday’s Game 3 of Illini’s Orange and Blue Series

On Sunday, my son and I went to Illinois Field to watch the Illini play Game 3 of their Orange and Blue Series. Coach Hartleb (right) takes the field before the game. Scott Shaw pitches for the Orange team.  In 2006, Scott was practically unhittable when he was on his game. Freshman John Schlichter hit one out [...]

Keeping up with the Illini

The Illini who are playing in college summer leagues have been busy typing away for the fightingillini.com’s Summer Diamond Notes. A few days ago, Mike Stankewicz checked in from the Crystal Lake Cardinals and just today, Nick Stockwell writes from the Lombard Orioles. Both are in the Chicago Suburban League. I don’t know if the [...]
