Illini hurler Shaw goes in second day of MLB draft

Shaw facing off against Michigan at the 2008 Big Ten Tournament The scouts must have been paying attention during the Illinois-Michigan game at the Big Ten Tournament because Illinois pitcher Scott Shaw was chosen #404th overall in Friday’s MLB’s first-year player draft.  Though Shaw lost that Michigan game, he pitched a heck of game.  Shaw [...]

Heartbreak in Ann Arbor

Scott Shaw Let’s make one thing clear.  Despite what those of you looking the boxscore might be thinking, Scott Shaw pitched the game of his career.  I don’t know if we could have asked any more of him.  Shaw held the potent Wolverine lineup to one run three hits for six innings. Unfortunately, it was [...]

Illinois Twice-Boiled by Purdue but at least they’re Ann Arbor-bound

There’s good news and bad news.  Well, the good news is the Illini are going to the Big Ten tournament and we have Indiana to thank for that.  The Hoosiers swept the Michigan State Spartans in Friday’s doubleheader and thereby eliminating them from tournament qualification. Michigan takes the wind out of Illinois’ sails

Michigan defeated Illinois tonight 9-5. I shot this as I was walking to the stadium.  The flags are located at direct centerfield.  I could tell right away we were going to have a slugfest. Some Michigan ballplayers were spotted outside the stadium during batting practice to flag down the balls that got hit out. Ok, [...]

Illinois Gets a DH split today against MSU

Four hits by first baseman Ryan Hastings helped Illinois put down the Kansas Jayhawks 11-9 on Wednesday.  Aside from going 4 for 4, Hastings clubbed a homer and a double with 3 runs and 2 rbis.  Kyle Hudson, Joe Bonadonna and Brandon Wikoff all contributed 2 hits apiece. It was was a close victory though.  [...]

Baylor 20 Illinois 6 Ouch!

That was my first reaction when seeing the final score of tonight’s game.  The lights-out pitching from last weekend just saw their ERA skyrocket.  Scott Shaw only lasted for 2 1/3 innings giving up 12 runs.  Only 5 of those runs were earned due to an error with two out. Obviously, the Baylor offense wasn’t [...]
