It was a tough game for the Illini though well played for the most part. And even for the casual uninvolved observer, a very engaging game for lack of a better term. The lead changed six times during the course of the nine innings (if you count ties). I mentioned to someone that the winner [...]

This game ranks up there as one of the best baseball games I’ve ever seen considering what was at stake, how many were in attendance and what actually went down. And in case the photo above doesn’t give it away, Illinois won. With Alex Wimmers (above left) and Phil Haig (above right) on the [...]

The Illini defeated the Western Illinois Leathernecks at Illinois Field by the score of 7-1 thanks in much part to the bat of thirdbaseman Dominic Altobelli (below left). Altobelli slammed 2 homeruns (one to left-center, the other to right) for rbis. His 3 for 4 night extended his hitting streak to 16 games. More amazing, [...]

Illinois and starting pitcher Bryan Roberts took care of business today as they shut out Northwestern Wildcats 9-0 at Rocky Miller Park in Evanston. With help from Michigan who defeated Ohio State, they are now in sole possession of first place in the Big Ten conference. Roberts was lights out as he struck out seven [...]

Now, that Illinois win was just a little TOO interesting. With a 15-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Northwestern Wildcats rallied for nine runs to make it close. Fortunately, Will Strack came in and shut the door on the ‘Cats, pitching a perfect ninth. The final score was 15-12 Illinois. [...]

Illinois captured the first game of the series against Northwestern and did with runs to spare, winning 10-2. Willie Argo, who has been on a tear lately, once again hit a homerun for the good guys. For the game, Argo was 2 for 4 with three rbis. Phil Haig pitched one heckuva game. In a [...]

Despite scoring five runs in the last two innings, the Illini lost to the St Louis Billikens in St Louis tonight. This in spite of efforts of Joe Bonadonna, Casey McMurray, Dom Altobelli and Josh Parr who had two hit each in the 11-10 heartbreaker. This was third mid-week, non-conference game in a row that [...]

This gentleman had the right idea during the break but a sweep was not in the cards for the Illini Illinois was oh so close to a sweep of Minnesota this weekend. After a major comeback on Friday, they did the same for the first game on Saturday coming back from a 4-0 deficit to [...]

Brandon Wikoff trots around the bases after hitting his 3rd homerun of the season It was the best game of the season in my opinion. For those that missed it, it’s too bad. You missed a heckuva battle between the Illini and the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. A couple facts about this game: Both teams [...]

From my standpoint, Illinois’ game against SIU at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois looked like a game of big innings. Unfortunately, the Salukis had one more of them than the Illini did. Southern had 5-0 lead thanks to a four run fourth inning when Blake Fairchild came on and just couldn’t get anybody out. [...]
