Comia, Hampe receive preseason honors

How the spring 2021 college baseball season will exactly shape up is still up in the air but for now, it is status quo with pre-season workouts at the Irwin Practice Facility.

And yes, pre-season selections are on tap.  On Thursday, Branden Comia and Ryan Hampe were both named to the preseason All-Big Ten team by Perfect Game

Infielder Branden Comia (above) was off to a fantastic start for Illinois last season before the it came to a screeching halt one game into the home season.  In 13 games, he led the team in almost every offensive category including hits (20), batting (.426), rbis (10) and slugging (.526).

Catcher Ryan Hampe is a new entity as far as Illini fans are concerned. He is an incoming transfer from John A. Logan Community College. His stats from Logan look impressive.  In the shortened season, he went 31 for 75 (.413) with four homers which contributed to a nifty .640 slugging percentage.  That contributed to Logan’s 20-1 record.

Congratulations to both Branden and Ryan.  Also, welcome aboard, Ryan.  Glad to have you part of Illini Nation!

Here’s hoping we can safely enjoy Illinois baseball when the time comes!
