The Rockford Rivets’ season is now “indefinitely on hold” as there was concerns of exposure to the Covid-19 virus by a staff member. Why is important to Illini fans? The Rivets, a Northwoods League team, has three Illini on their roster.
I found this out the hard way this as I was in the Rockford area visiting family this weekend. No better way to spend the time than to see Illinois players Brody Harding, Branden Comia and Cam McDonald in action.
Alas, it was not meant to be. The Rivets made their decision on the day I traveled up to Rockford. I had a quick Twitter chat with Cam and Brody who filled me in.
I totally understand the need for safety protocol but it was still disappointing to not see some of my favorite Illini and the rest of the Rivets in action. The Rivets are currently evaluating the situation and will not doubt make the best decision for everyone.
From what I can gather, this is a Rivets team decision and not a Northwoods League one… yet.
