Grab your coat (really), it’s the first home series for the Illini!

Illini fans, get ready… this weekend is the first home series of 2009!

It might be a bit chilly for Friday’s game.  Forecasts show sunny and a high of 49 degrees but all things considered, we’ve endured worst.  The early 3:05pm game time will help with that (good thing because it will be a low of 26 that night!).

The rest of the weekend looks to be warmer and sunnier (I know, I know, I’m jinxing it).

Games #10, 11, 12, 13

Record: 7-2

logosm vs University of Akron Zips

at Illinois Field

March 13 3:05 pm CT
March 14 (DH) 12:05 pm CT 3:00 pm CT
March 15 1:05 am CT

The Akron Zips are coming to town.  In contrast to last weekend’s series against what was then the #1 team in the country, the Zips have a 2-11 record so far in 2009.  That’s not to demean them and certainly not to give our team any hopes of an "easy" series.   The Zips were good enough to post a winning record last year and have not lost any of their starting pitchers.

As long as mistakes are kept to a minimum, I certainly predict a series win by the Illini.

A quick look at Akron this weekend:

Yes, another award

To add to his Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award, Ben Reeser was named to the College Baseball Foundation National All-Star Lineup after his near shutout against LSU on Sunday.

Congrats, Ben!

Go Illini!

One Comment:

  1. hopefully we don’t choke on the Zips this weekend… if we have any shot at a postseason bid outside of winning the Big Ten tournament we have to play solid in games like this and keep ourselves front and center in the minds of the pollsters…

Good chance to pick up some wins and pad the stats, we should win 3… hopefully we take all 4.
