Illinois home opener welcomes EIU

My favorite day of the year is almost here.  Illinois baseball’s home opener!

Illinois will host Eastern Illinois on Tuesday at Illinois Field at 4pm.  With some luck, the weather will cooperate, too.  While it may be a bit chilly, the forecast calls for sun.

Illinois has been struggling in the early season winning just one game each in the first three weekends.  This past weekend looked a little promising however as the good guys defeated #25 West Virginia on Saturday 6-2.  The Illini were so close to a series win with a roller coaster game against Kansas on Sunday but just couldn’t pull it off.

On the mound

Ty Rybarczyk will show us what he’s got on Tuesday.

This will be his fourth appearance in 2022.  He’s got a nice 1.93 ERA to go along with a save so far this season.

Fun fact: Illinois has won all three games that Ty has made an appearance. Let’s keep that up!

Random Ramblings

Check out freshman Ryan Moerman!  With four hits over the weekend, he’s upped his average to .321, tops on the team now.  Catcher Jacob Campbell is right behind him at .316.

Long time Illini fans will remember EIU’s head coach, Jason Anderson. Jason was a star hurler for the Illini and made it as far as bigs. He was drafted by the Yankees in 2003 and also saw time with the Mets, Indians, Phillies and Padres.

If you’re in the area, stop by Illinois Field on Tuesday.  An Illinois baseball game is one of the best shows in town and the price is right (free).

See you at the ballpark!!
