Barrington senior makes a verbal commitment

Some news comes over the wire from the Daily Herald that informs us of Robby McDonnell’s verbal commitment to play for the University of Illinois.

McDonnell is a senior at Barrington (IL) High School.  He’s lefthanded pitcher and looks pretty good.  He’s certainly had interest from plenty of schools including Minnesota, Iowa, Miami (Ohio) and our sister school in Chicago.

Last year as a junior, McDonnell went 9-3 with a 2.10 ERA and was an All-Area selection by the Daily Herald.  With his help, Barrington got as far as the Class 4A supersectionals.

It seems Coach Westray has been instrumental in working with McDonnell.

Says McDonnell:

"All of the coaches seem very baseball intelligent and know what to do and can make me a better player," McDonnell said. "And the facilities are pretty cool."

As a lefty, I’m sure Mickey D will get his share of appearances when his day comes.  Illinois always seems short in that department.
