Illinois hosts Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Wednesday night

On April Fool’s Day, #26 Illinois (yes, we dropped a spot in the polls) the Illini will take on the Cougars of University of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. The Cougars are a probationary member of the Ohio Valley Conference hoping for full NCAA Division I status in by 2012-2013.

Game #22

Record: 16-5 (3-0 Big Ten)

SIU-E is 5-14 for the year but they’re not necessarily patsies either.  Two weekends ago against Ohio State, they showed heart and grit.  Down 9-5, they rallied to tie it 10-10 before the Buckeyes scored three in the ninth to win 13-10.

Secondbaseman Josh Street seems to be the catalyst of the Cougar lineup leading the team in practically every offensive category.

Pitching-wise, SIU-E sports a hefty 8.20 ERA allowing 94 walks in 158 innings.  Here’s hoping we can tee off on them tomorrow.

Opponent:

SIU-E Team Facts: Last year, SIU-E finished 2nd in the Ohio Valley with a 18-14 conference record.
SIU-E Players to Watch: Yikes!  2B Josh Street leads the team in batting (.393), home runs (8), runs (26), rbis (31), and doubles (T6).

Here’s hoping for some warm, dry weather Wednesday night!!!

Go Illini!
