Former Illini start July hot in minor league play

Some former Illini in minors are starting out the month of July hot, it seems.  Monday was especially productive for U of I alum as a total of four had a key rbi hit that night.

Josh Parr’s bat helped win the game for the Yakima Bears (Class A Diamondbacks) on Monday night.  His rbi double in the bottom of the eighth sealed the victory against the Spokane Indians who are hot on the Bears’ trail in the Northwest League.

purduesat 022-001Adam Davis, now playing for the Delmarva Shorebirds (Class A Orioles), was the driving force behind their 4-2 win against the West Virginia Power Monday night.  Davis (shown right during his Illinois days) went 3 for 3 with a two-run homerun.  That was enough to get his name in the headlines.

On the same night, Kyle Hudson had a good night, too.  He’s playing on the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs (Class AAA Phillies) and his two-run double was key in a four run comeback against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.  Hud is playing along side MLB all-star Ryan Howard these days while Howard is in rehab.

ALSO on Monday night, former Illini catcher Lars Davis drove in a run for the Tulsa Drillers (Class AA Rockies) in a close 5-4 game versus Corpus Christi.  Lars got to see an old friend on the opposition that day.  Former Illini teammate Brandon Wikoff was playing second base for the Hooks.

Finally, congrats to Mike Rohde who hit his first homerun of the season on Sunday for the Gary Southshore Railcats. Unfortunately, it was in a losing effort as the Sioux Falls Pheasants won the game.

Way to represent the UI, guys!

  1. Hope the hits keep on coming! Go Illini!

  2. Hey! How about a shout-out to our Illini players to send you an updated picture in their team uniforms?? This includes current summer ball players and former Illini still playing. The overseas contingent (Braun & Anderson) would be really great to see. Ben has posted the official pics on the Illini site, but seeing “action” shots in uniform would be cool since we’re used to seeing your excellent pics while they are students.
