Rohde signed by Railcats

Good news for former Illini firstbaseman Mike Rohde.  The Gary Southshore Railcats have signed him for the 2010 season.  Rohde, who was the league’s 2008 Rookie of the Year, moved to thirdbase last year.
And go figure, Rohde got a blogging gig for the Northwest Indiana Times last summer.  If we’re lucky, we’ll see [...]

Former Illini Rohde traded

Rohde rounding the bases in his Illinois days
Mike Rohde, former firstbaseman for the University of Illinois, has been traded to Gary SouthShore RailCats.  The Railcats were the Northern League Champion in 2007.
Rohde was acquired from the Sioux Falls Canaries and was included as the player to be named later in a trade that sent pitcher [...]

Illinois tagged by the Gophers

Thursday, Illinois entered the loser’s bracket at the Big Ten Tournament as they lost to the Minnesota Golden Gophers 10-3.

Starter Mike Stankiewicz
The Gophers got to starter Mike Stankiewicz early as they hit him for 5 runs in the first inning and four runs before he got his first out. Brian Long replaced Stanky in [...]

Things I see and people I meet at the Big Ten Tournament

Ray Fisher stadium, home of the University of Michigan baseball team, seems like a pretty decent facility. I (and at least one other person who I gave directions to) had a little problem finding the place partially because of all the construction going on and because I got some bad advice from a bus driver.

Iowa gets ‘Roarked’ by the Orange and Blue

Here we go, Illini, Here we go!
Here we go, Illini, here we go!

It sure is nice to be in the winners’ bracket.
No incredible comeback today at the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Nope, the Illinois had things pretty much under control from the very start against the Iowa Hawkeyes as they took them [...]

Illinois Down to the Wire

Game Two’s scoreboard says it all
It wasn’t a good day for Illinois baseball. They lost both games to the Michigan State Spartans and it wasn’t really close. They were outscored 23-7 for the two games. I hope Coach Hartleb has some good words of wisdom for boys in Orange and Blue.
They need to win tomorrow [...]

Ohh yesss! Illini DH sweep against Michigan today

It couldn’t get any better today for the University of Illinois.
With Illinois going against Michigan in a doubleheader, I had Gametracker going on all day today. When the Illini won the first in extras that was great. When they won the second game behind a solid performance by Scott Shaw, I was ecstatic. I [...]

Roof gets the run the Illini need against Robert Morris

Last night I went to the University of Illinois baseball game against Robert Morris with my friends Brando and Shawn.

Shawn Roof took some time to chat with us about ball and bat physics
Before the game, Brando and I went down to the left field fence to watch the guys warm up. Shawn Roof gave [...]

Illini sees leads slip away in losses to Texas-Arlington

It was a frustrating weekend for the Illini as they had leads in all three games against University of Texas-Arlington only to lose them. Friday’s game was a heartbreaker lost in extra innings.
Instead of dwelling on the losses (you can check out box scores yourself with fightingillini.com’s new web feature, click on [...]
