Illini, Indiana State battle to a 5-5 tie

Saturday, Illinois battled to a 5-5 tie with the Indiana State Sycamores for a 14 inning game.  Like last Wednesday’s game against EIU, both coaches agreed to the 14 innings beforehand as the teams want the experience of competitive action.

Fans got to see a lot of Illini pitchers as each inning saw a pitching change.  And for the first nine innings, our hurlers were phenomenal.  By the end of nine regulation, the score was 5-0!  Indiana State found their bats in the tenth inning and score four runs.

Jack Yalowitz was key once again on Saturday.  He and Zac Taylor put a pair of doubles together to score a couple of runs in the sixth inning.  The next frame, David Craan and Ben Troike helped the Illini score two more.

Skony at the Park!

It was great to see former Illini catcher Mark Skonieczny (glad I committed the spelling of his name to memory).  Skony is finishing up his schooling in Kinesiology at the University of Illinois. Hope to see you at some ballgames in the spring, Mark!
