Big Ten Tournament Championship Game Set

If you were a Minnesota Gopher fan, you have to be pretty happy right today. In the bottom of the 9th, eighth place hitter and secondbaseman Joe Maciej hit a walk-off two-run homerun to beat Ohio State 4-3. That sets the stage for the tournament championship game tomorrow. It will…

Big 10 Tournament Over for Illinois

Purdue eliminated Illinois from the Big Ten Tournament today defeating them in a hard fought extra inning contest 4-3. Starter Jimmy Conroy kept the Illini in it for most of the game. One can hardly fault starting pitcher Jimmy Conroy who pitched a heck of a game. He pitched a…

Illinois Loses to Minnesota in first game of Big Ten Tournament

Didn’t make it to the Illini game yesterday. Elected instead to take my 5-year daughter out on a date. It was a close call but she’s a real sweet talker sometime. Got back in time to listen to most of it on the radio… if only I could stay awake.…

Big Ten Tourney Update

The first two games were played today at Illinois Field. Ohio State 7 Michigan 3 Minnesota 14 Iowa 7 But now I’m confused. Look at the updated bracket and see if this makes sense to you. According to the playoff bracket, shouldn’t Illinois be playing Ohio State? Anyway, Illinois is…

Illinois Takes Big Ten Title!

I never thought I’d say this but: Thank you, Indiana! Here’s the scenario: Going into the last game of the season, Illinois still had a magic number of one. Either they had to win or Purdue had to lose in order for them to win the Big Ten title. Well,…

Promo Idea Best Left on the Drawing Board

Today’s University of Illinois baseball game is being billed as “Dog Day Afternoon”. It says in part: Bring your dog to the park and receive free admission for yourself and your four-legged friend Yes, and don’t forget to bring your pooper scoopers. And I’m sure your dogs will behave just…

Another Illinois Loss: Now I’m a Bit Worried

I attended the Illini game last night and it wasn’t pretty. They lost their fifth in a row and their magic number remains at two. With three games left against Iowa this weekend, they need to win the next two to clinch the Big Ten title. Brian Blomquist took the…

Illini Lose 4th in a Row

In what hopefully will not be a trend, the Illini lost their fourth game in a row against #20 Missouri. Despite 3 Missori errors, they lost 6-2. It was a game of lost opportunities as they stranded 6 runners in scoring position. Illinois remains first in the Big Ten but…

Yikes! Illinois Loses Three in a Row!
