Photos of Tuesday’s practice

I wandered in to see how the clubhouse addition was coming along and then watched some practice, too.  Here are some photos.  You see Brandon Hohl at his familiar thirdbase position at the top.   Coach Westray imparting some sage advice to some of the pitchers.   The outfielders were…

Clubhouse Addition: Walls appearing

While I was out at Illinois Field today, I noticed they had made some discernable progress on the clubhouse renovation.  There are now walls!  Well, they’ve started on them, at least.  Here’s a view from the southeast side:     It gives us, and more importantly the players, a concrete…

Thursday’s practice: they saw the bunt comin’

Some photos I took today watching the Illini practice: It was good to see #1 Illinois Baseball fan John Santas out there checking the status of the team.  He says going out to the ballpark to see the team practice “makes the day that much better”.  I’d have to agree. …

Photos of Friday’s full practice

Took some time after work to watch the team in full practice today.  Despite what it looks like in the top photo it was pretty much all business. For example, here’s Ditt running the bases, a fine sight for any Illini baseball fan: I’ve put all (the good) photos from…

Workouts continue; full team practice later this week

I stopped by Illinois Field today after work to observe practice.  The team was still in individual workouts so I’ll hold off on posting photos for the time being.  Coach Snider tells me that full team practice will probably begin after Wednesday.  The players look good.  Specifically, Matt Dittman looks…

Photos of Road Trip to Indy to see Shawn Roof

Last night, I went with friends (thanks to all of you, I know you’ll read this) to see the Triple-A  Indianapolis Indians-Toledo Mudhens game.  A baseball game is always fun but when former Illini Shawn Roof is the starting thirdbaseman for one of the teams, it makes it awesome.  So…

Summer leagues can have a lasting effect

Today’s number on the sports page of the News-Gazette was 44.  That’s the number of rbis that Adam Davis (left) accrued this summer while playing for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League.  That was good for sixth in the league.  He accomplished this in part behind a .328 average. …

Yay! I’m going on a road trip to Indy to see Shawn Roof

As you may know, Shawn Roof is now playing for the AAA Toledo Mudhens and tonight and tomorrow night, he’s playing in Indianapolis.  This is as close as he’s gotten to Urbana in his minor league career.  Here’s my chance to see him in action.  So with the help of…

Practice commences and Roof coming to Indy

It’s a busy week on campus.  All the University students are back and finding their way to their new classes.  Good luck to the players this semester.  I don’t need to remind them how important their studies are.  To their credit, Coach Hartleb and the rest of the coaching staff…

New photos of construction of clubhouse at Illinois Field

After work today, I trekked on over to Illinois Field to see how construction was going on the improvements on the Illinois players’ clubhouse.  I took some photos while I was there too. The UI baseball program has come out with a press release on the construction.  Here are some…
