Wikoff among THT college SS rankings

There are college baseball websites I check out and there are pro baseball websites I browse.  And unless it’s MLB draft time, never the twain shall meet. So when it was twittered (by @IlliniBaseball in case you’re wondering) that Brandon Wikoff was mentioned on one of my favorite web sites…

Parr makes the Prospect League All-Star team

Congratulations to Josh Parr.  He made the All-Star team in the summer Prospect League.  He will be representing his Springfield Sliders and will be playing for the West All-Stars.  Parr will be the starting second baseman for the West team.  He got the nod on the basis of his speed…

Bonadonna, Robinson impressing in the minors

Got a call from Illini baseball fan Sue who I haven’t seen since the last home series.  We chatted a bit on some of the summer goings-on of the Illini.  She clued me into some big news about Joe Bonadonna Bonadonna (left), who was grabbed by the Rangers in the…

Zerrusen stingy with runs in first half of summer ball

Major kudos to Lee Zerrusen on his performance in the first half of the season in the Coastal Plain League.  Pitching for the Fayetteville Swampdogs, Lee has a miniscule 0.98 ERA in 13 appearances with 7 saves.  He has 21 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings.  To those watching during the…

Some more good photos of Hudson on Shorebird fan site

As a follow-up to my note on Kyle Hudson yesterday, I’d like to give props to Hannah Seward who is a big Delmarva Shorebird fan.  A week or so ago, I linked to a photo of hers here on IBR.  Anyway, Hannah emailed to say hi and passed on her…

Media Watch: Kyle Hudson

The Mattoon Charleston Journal-Gazette Times-Courier has a nice feature article on former Illini centerfielder Kyle Hudson who is faring just fine with the Oriole Class A Delmarva Shorebirds.  Hudson has 17 stolen bases so far this year and 31 runs scored both good for second on the team.

Catching up with Illini draftees

By now, the minor league season has started for the Illinois players who were drafted earlier this month.  Let’s take a look at how they are doing in their new minor league settings. Well, Brandon Wikoff is off to a hot start for the Tri-City ValleyCats in New York State. …

Feature article on Illini Dittman and his team’s trip to Alaska

There was a great article on Matt Dittman in the Libertyville Review.  In summer league action, Ditt made the trip up to the Great North so his Lake Erie Monarchs could take on Alaska Goldpanners (summer league teams have such great nicknames, I think). Don’t think Dittman didn’t lose some…

Roberts in relief

Last night, Bryan Roberts, who is spending his summer pitching for the Dupage Dragons, made the best of his relief appearance against the Butler Blue Sox in Prospect League play.  After his starting pitcher gave up seven runs, Roberts came in and pitched 3 2/3 innings of shutout ball. His…
