Midweek preview: Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois

For this week’s two midweek games, we’re playing two state universities… Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois.  Don’t look at their records.  Both are tough in their own way.  As for us, we’re even-steven.  The Illini are 13-13 overall and 3-3 against the Big Ten.  Let’s take a look at both teams.   Eastern Illinois Panthers [...]

Argo’s granny downs SIU

The big stories of tonight’s game between Illinois and Southern Illinois University: Well first of all, Illinois won 5-1.  Yes, the Illini have a three game winning streak against Big Ten teams (courtesy of Penn State) but they also haven’t beaten a non-conference in three games either.   So I’m glad Illinois could get this monkey [...]

Get yer Illini baseball fix; Illini take on SIU Tuesday

Tuesday night the Southern Illinois Salukis come rolling into town.  If I’m not mistaken, they are the only team we will play in 2009 on two separate occasions.  We played them on April 15th in Marion, Il and lost 9-6.  Let’s hope we have better luck at home at Illinois Field.  For those in the [...]

Illini fall to SIU despite big inning

From my standpoint, Illinois’ game against SIU at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois looked like a game of big innings.  Unfortunately, the Salukis had one more of them than the Illini did.  Southern had 5-0 lead thanks to a four run fourth inning when Blake Fairchild came on and just couldn’t get anybody out.  [...]

From Eastern to Southern: The Illini take on the Salukis of SIU

Matt Dittman practices his “mean” face before the game with Eastern. It’s late so I’m going to keep this short.  The Illini are heading to Marion, IL to play Coach Hartleb’s alma mater, Southern Illinois University.  Hartleb will play down his time at SIU but word has it he was pretty good as a catcher [...]

Illinois gets some pitching… but lose to SIU

Brandon Wikoff laying down a bunt College baseball is a strange beast.  After a weekend against a Big Ten rival where we score 49 runs and give up 43 runs, they take on Southern Illinois and pitch their hearts out.  After a rough 3 innings giving up two runs, Illinois relievers were stingy and allowed [...]

Illinois hosts St Louis for their “official” home opener April 2

…which means this time, you’ll have to pay to get in.  But first… At this moment Illinois is leading Southern Illinois in the top of 8th, 5-2.  Daniel Webb has gone 3 for 4.  Brandon Wikoff and Ryan Hastings both have two hits.  Wikoff came into game hitting .397 so he may have cracked the [...]

Illinois meets up with SIU Tuesday

Next Game: Game #20 Tues 4/1 6pm Record:  12-7 vs Southern Illinois University at Rent One Park, Marion, IL Tuesday, the Illini have a road game at Southern Illinois.  More precisely, the game will be at Rent One Park in Marion, IL.  Rent One is the home of minor league team, the Southern Illinois Miners. Dan Hartleb Hired as UI Baseball Coach

The University of Illinois has named Dan Hartleb the new Illini Baseball Coach. Hartleb has been signed to a four-year contract and replaces Itch Jones who has retired. Hartleb has been the pitching coach for the Illinois team for the entire 15-year tenure of Jones. He has sent 15 pitchers to professional ball during those [...]

Illini Beat Salukis 9-7

Chalk up another victory for Illinois as they overcame Southern Illinois in extra innings 9-7. Aaron Saving (nice name for a reliever, eh?) got the win by pitching a 1-2-3 10th. Toby Gardenhire doubled in the go-ahead run. In case you’re wondering, Toby is indeed the son of Ron Gardenhire. The Illini remain in first [...]
