This brings Illinois’ record to 1-4 for the season and itchin’ for a win. Box Score In the 2nd inning, Western Carolina accomplished something you don’t see everyday… a [...]

Well, the Illini gave St John’s a good fight. It was pretty much the story of two games within one. The first one where the Illini had them strung up in the first five innings, winning 4-0. It was indeed the 3-run fifth inning when Illinois did most of the damage keyed by a 2-run [...]

That’s the way to start the season! Consider that the Illinois baseball team went into the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge cold having missed the first weekend of play due to weather while their opponents, Notre Dame, got a three game head start. Consider also that same Notre Dame team won all three of their games [...]

After a banner season with the Waterloo Bucks, Mike Giller has been named to the Northwoods League post-season All-Star team. Giller is most deserving. He’s currently leading the NWL in hitting with a .336 batting average and also leads with 87. He is fifth in the league in rbis with 40. To say, he’s the [...]

The Northwoods League announced their 2009 All-Star teams and our own Mike Giller made the cut. Giller is spending his summer with the Waterloo Bucks. Giller (playing shortstop, by the way) is hitting a nifty .373 which leads the league. That makes him the only .300 hitter on his team. He also leads the Bucks [...]

This game ranks up there as one of the best baseball games I’ve ever seen considering what was at stake, how many were in attendance and what actually went down. And in case the photo above doesn’t give it away, Illinois won. With Alex Wimmers (above left) and Phil Haig (above right) on the [...]

The Illini defeated the Western Illinois Leathernecks at Illinois Field by the score of 7-1 thanks in much part to the bat of thirdbaseman Dominic Altobelli (below left). Altobelli slammed 2 homeruns (one to left-center, the other to right) for rbis. His 3 for 4 night extended his hitting streak to 16 games. More amazing, [...]

Josh Parr, Corey Kimes and Mike Giller. Happy Times For the second weekend in a row, the Illini take to the road facing a Big Ten team. They’re facing our neighbor to the north, the Northwestern Wildcats in Evanston, Illinois. No doubt we’ll have a sizable visitor section there this weekend. Game #40 Record: [...]

Last weekend it was Florida… this coming weekend, our boys are going to Texas for the Al Ogletree Classic. More specifically, they’ll be visiting Edinburg Stadium. That’s the home of the University of Texas Pan American Broncs who are currently 0-4 this season. Don’t make fun though. UTPA was the home field of Al Ogletree [...]
