Illinois Baseball shut out by UConn, 6-0

Two doubles for David Kerian in the loss against UConn

After a win against a tough Coastal Carolina team on Saturday, the Illini Baseball team lost 6-0 against the UConn Huskies for their second shutout loss for the weekend.  Illinois were also shut out 3-0 to George Mason on Friday during last weekend’s Baseball at the Beach Tournament at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

After two weekends, the Illini are now 2-4 against an admittedly tough schedule.

I’m going to give starting pitcher John Kravetz some credit here.  His four innings with no earned runs will help his confidence not to mention bring his ERA back from the stratosphere.  That wasn’t the problem in Sunday’s game.  There just wasn’t any offense against the UConn Huskies as the Illini only mustered three hits.

Good guys:  Relieving Kravetz, Cody Sedlock pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts… David Kerian belted two doubles in 4 at-bats… Ryan Nagle got the only other hit a single.

The tough schedule won’t get any easier as the Illini will face #23 Florida according to this week’s polls.  They’ll be playing them Saturday down in Gainesville Florida.  Buffering that will be two games against Florida Gulf Coast on Friday and Sunday.

Go Illinois!
