Former Illini catcher Robinson re-signs with Orioles

Congrats to former Illini catcher Chris Robinson.  He just re-upped with the Baltimore Orioles organization for the 2013 season.  That comes complete with an invite to 2013 Spring Training, by the way.

In 2012, Robinson batted .232 with 18 rbis with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides

A little background on Robinson… he played for the University of Illinois from 2003-2005.  Robbie was drafted by the Rangers and has played for the Tigers, Cubs and Orioles minor league systems.  Since 2009, he been playing at the AAA level with the Cubs and Orioles.

For a few years, hard-luck Robinson was stuck in AAA Iowa behind the Cubs’ then-phenom catcher Geovany Soto.  That plan didn’t work out so well for the Northsiders as Soto skills declined even as Robbie had a fantastic year in 2009 batting .326.  This year, I’m sure Robinson is looking to prove he belongs in the bigs.

Good luck, Chris!
