Former Illini catcher Robinson helps Team Canada to the World Baseball Classic

News comes to us from the London (Ontario) Free Press about former Illini catcher Chris Robinson.  Robbie, who is Ontario-born, is once again poised to help Team Canada in their bid in the World Baseball Classic.

Robinson last played for the Illini during their championship season of 2005.  Since then he’s been playing in the minors.  He’s played in AAA for the last four years but has yet to make the jump to the bigs.

Each year for the last several years though, Robbie has lent his talents to his country and this year, he’s already contributing.  The video below shows a Chris Robinson homerun against Germany which helped put Canada into the WBC.  Canada won 11-1.

As for his quest for the MLB, Chris tries to stay positive:

“You try not to be the guy that’s bitter. It gets tougher and tougher as you get older.  The goal is to play in the big leagues. You know that certain guys are up there and that keeps you going. Maybe you think you are better than them.”

Good luck to Chris in the World Baseball Classic!
