Illinois Baseball Report

There was a nice feature article in the Daily Herald about Illinois walk-on pitcher Andrew Mamlic last week.   Andrew is a right handed pitcher from Wheaton North high school.  Andrew “has been clocked throwing his fastball 90mph and (has) an almost unhittable slider”, according to Herald reporter Dan Mamlic (hmm, relation??).

Mamlic is listed as a redshirt freshman.

Mamlic is one of two walk-ons for the Illini this season.  Steve Nelson is also a walk-on and comes to the team from Vernon Hills.  He joins the crowded Illini catcher platoon.

Nelson is a freshman.
