Summer plans for the Illini

The Illinois baseball players don’t get much of a break after the college season is over.  A few days after it’s over they travel to their college summer teams to hone their skills.  This year, twenty-one Illinois players will be playing in these summer leagues. For the most part our players are joining many of [...]

Hartleb to return in 2011

If you’re a fan of Coach Hartleb (and if I’m a good judge, most of us are), rest assured.  He has been told by athletic director Ron Guenther that he still has a job.  The UI Athletic Department has said all year that it was going to wait till the end of the season before [...]

Parr, Johnson honored by Big Ten

On the eve of the Big Ten Tournament, conference awards were handed out.  Three Illinois players got some hardware to display on their mantles.  Shortstop Josh Parr (left) was named to the All-Big Ten third team.  Making the switch from second base to short, his conference.337 average and 21 runs scored were tops at his [...]

Illini end season with 16-6 loss to Indiana

Today, Illinois closed out the 2010 season with a 16-6 loss against Indiana.  It was a classic Hoosier victory with sixteen runs and seventeen hits (although only one homerun).  Senior Kevin Manson took the loss.  Indiana knocked Manson around pretty well.   They scored six runs (five earned) in three innings.  This evens Manson’s record at [...]

Photos of Tour de C-U: Day 1 [Update: there’s a link to Day 2 photos, too]

Since the Illini were out of town and I still had the itch to shoot (photos, that is), I took in a few of the races of today’s Tour de C-U cycling event.  I’m not sure if I ever attended let alone photographed a cycling race, so it was a first for me.  Today was [...]

Illinois wins slugfest in Bloomington 17-12

It was a wild and crazy one in Bloomington today.  Indiana continued to hit and scored 12 runs.  Fortunately, Illinois had a blockbuster afternoon scoring 17 runs on the same amount of hits.  Brandon Hohl hit two homers and drove in three runs.  Final score:  Illinois 17  Indiana 12.  The lead changed hands a quite [...]

Six Hoosier homers doom Illinois

Indiana came touted as a team with power and at least for Hoosier fans, they disappoint this afternoon.  They defeated the Illini 11-5 with the help of six homeruns.  Indiana never had the huge inning… no more than than three runs in a frame.  Also, Illinois managed to separate their rallies with goose eggs.  Indiana [...]

Season finale sees Illinois take on the Hoosiers

Tom Shelton takes umm… batting practice before the Western Michigan game For the last regular season weekend, we’re playing the Indiana Hoosiers.  Note I use term “weekend” loosely since the series starts on Thursday.  Given the teams playing, I’m expecting some wild and wooly games. Indiana Hoosiers May 20, 2010 2 pm ct May 21, [...]

Illini ‘Cap’ home season with a win against Western Michigan

Illinois ended their home season with a win tonight against Western Michigan.  Thanks to key pitching and a great game by Pete Cappetta, the Illini outscored the Broncos 6-1.  Billy Barrett held the Broncos hitless for three innings The Broncos just couldn’t get the offense going against Illinois’ hurlers.  Through six innings against Billy Barrett, [...]
