Illinois baseball going south (in a good sorta way)

Starting tomorrow, the squad goes on their annual spring trip to Florida.  The schedule isn’t as packed as it was last year… they’re playing five games this time.

Games #14, 15, 16, 17, 18

Record: 11-2

vs Army March 20, 10:00am CT Henley Field, Lakeland, FL
vs Hartford March 21, 10:00am CT Chain of Lakes Stadium, Winter Haven, FL
vs Central Connecticut St March 22, 1:30pm CT Chain of Lakes Stadium, Winter Haven, FL
vs Central Connecticut St March 23, 2:00pm CT Chain of Lakes Stadium, Winter Haven, FL
vs Central Connecticut St March 24, 9:00am CT Chain of Lakes Stadium, Winter Haven, FL

Note that the 10am time for the Army game is a change from the original schedule.

I know better than to say that any game is a “gimme” but the Army Black Knights and the Hartford Hawks have probably seen better seasons.  The Hawks have just won their first game of the season.

Central Connecticut St (the team we play three games) do seem to have a formidable squad (they ended up in post season last year).  With a 4-3 record shows they can win but also says they don’t have as much in-game experience this year as the Illini.

The Illini played the Blue Devils of CCSU last year’s spring break trip and split a doubleheader with them.

A side note… Hartford Hawks head coach Jeff Calcaterra is a University of Indiana alum.

And a quick thanks to my friend Dick who came to the ballgame last Friday.  He says he came because of me and the site.  If one person comes to Illinois Field because of what I’ve said, well, I’m happy.

Next home game is Michigan State on March 27th.

Go Illini!
